Paisley Museum

To support our learning about WW2, Primary 7 visited the Paisley Museum to participate in a workshop.

Laura told us all about the duties of an Air Raid Patrol Warden and Scott was able to try out the uniform and equipment that they would need to carry with them in preparing for or during an air raid.

We also learned about the different forms of shelter that people would have had to build and use to remain as safe as possible during 'The Blitz'.

We discussed evacuation and were able to see inside an evacuee suitcase and identify the different items a child might have taken with them if they were being evacuated for safety. It was very difficult for us to decide what we would take, especially as we wouldn't have iPads and Playstations to take with us!

Laura talked to us all about rationing and how everyone had to make a big effort to ration the use of all foods and materials, and also how many people began to grow their own foods anywhere possible.

Lastly, we were able to go and have a look at genuine WW2 artifacts, including telegrams sent and signed by Hitler himself and real pieces of shrapnel from bombings of the First Aid Post in the Woodside area of Paisley that killed 92 people.

We had a super fun morning and learned lots of information that will help us in the rest of our topic!

Here we are enjoying our visit.
